Yamaha Marine Outboard Motor Model Identification
Yamaha outboards manufactured between 1984-2004 have an identification label located on the outboards transom bracket. The top number is the Yamaha Model Number. The last letter in that model number identifies the engine Year.
To identify a Yamaha outboard, you need to:
Look for an identification plate on the port side engines transom bracket. The plate displays the model code, shaft length, serial number and older models also a quick reference letter that reflects 'production year' reference.
The first two letters of the code on the identification plate represent the model type, the numbers after represent the horsepower, the next letter represents the shaft length, and the letter at the end represents the year the motor was manufactured.
- The top right code on the identification plate is the outboard’s code name.
- The right lower code on the identification plate is the serial number.
- The letter beside the serial number indicates the shaft length.
- The code below the word Yamaha is the engine prefix code.
- The letter beside LTD is the code determining manufactured date
